A Note From My Family.

Of all the things I am grateful for, my family tops the list.

My dad played music the majority of his life and it goes without saying, I think, that he is my biggest inspiration. Two months ago, my dad was told that he had to have a pretty serious operation on his carotid arteries. He is a stroke survivor and the risks were pretty high… and we all were pretty worried. I kept this whole thing quiet for a majority of the time, but as the surgery date grew closer I decided to share it on facebook because, if anything, I believe in positive thought. I had to cancel a lot of shows, I left a lot of people hanging… but the night before Dad checked into the hospital I played the Whiskey Wilmington. It was one of those nights where, because I had shared a little bit of what I was going through on facebook, there was a big, pink elephant in the room… but it wasn’t the sort of elephant that made you awkward and weird feeling.  It was the kind of elephant that you knew was there, you felt okay around and believed in. During breaks people came up and said they were thinking about my Dad, the crowd was especially respectful and attentive– and it was just one of those nights where the over all feel was, “it’s going to be okay.”

I left around midnight after that show, feeling better, and my Dad went into surgery six hours later.  The surgery was a total success, my Dad is recovering nicely and, like we all said… it’s going to be okay.

So! If I could, I’d write a little note to every single one of you that was at the show, to everyone who took the time to write a little note on facebook or through my website, to everyone who took the time to think positive thoughts about my family. It meant more than you could know, and my family and I thank you. Especially me.

But I can’t so here’s one big one to all ya’ll! : ) Thanks for the big elephant.

I’m so glad your Dad is okay. I’ve had some medical scares recently as well and it is important to have a good support group. Take care, and I hope to see you again soon!
