X Factor Update: It’s Still Really Happening!

Oh good morning!

(<— subliminal message.)

Things have gone back to normal for the most part (whatever that means) so it was especially exciting to get a call from the awesome people over at Fox 50 yesterday! I got all gussied up and went to the station to discuss my upcoming trip and to ask important questions like, “What do I wear?” (You knew I would ask that.) I got some great advice about the audition… I’ve spent a good amount of time thinking about how to go about this whole thing: Do I play up some aspect of my personality? Should I challenge myself by interpreting a song? Do I wear fake eyelashes? The problem with this kind of thinking is that I tend to over-do it and I end up second guessing myself. My bells and whistles have been pretty consistent and I’ve gotten comfortable with that. But is that okay? A producer at Fox 50 set me straight by saying,
“Be yourself. A gimmick won’t work. We chose you for a reason.”
And you know? Hearing that put it all back in perspective. If you’ve taken the time to come and see me play, or listened to my demo, or voted for me for this competition… you’ve done so because you supported ME. My voice, my style, my awkward and unfortunate stage banter. And if I spend my time thinking about that instead of “what do I do what do I do what do I do” my knees will surely shake a little less come audition time. So thanks for the pep talk, you-know-who.

(Insert proud face)

After all was said and done, I kept it together enough to say very energetic goodbyes to everyone at Fox and to smile very energetically at everyone I passed in the parking lot and made it to my car with just enough time to slam the door and scream and do a little happy-car-seat-dance. Okay, it wasn’t a little dance. The car was shaking. And yes someone saw me, okay? Anyway.
I’ve got my audition pass!

(<— I’m going “AAHHH!” behind that folder.)

OH! And my Fox 50 friends also gave me a bag of presents!! I immediately dressed everyone up in my new goodies, like so:

You can pretty much guess the rest of the story. Called Mom. Screamed. She screamed. Danced a little more. Went to grocery store.

We’re a week away as of today and that calls for daily celebration. I started last night by making a lasagna and then I had a donut. Life is good.

(<---- yes, there's a heart made of cheese. And yes, it's for you.)

See you this weekend at the North Carolina Potato Festival in Elizabeth City!

Bibis, I knew this day would come eventually for you. I didn’t know how or when or where but it is destined. Your talent and personality are too amazing not to be shared, noticed and appreciated. I whole heartedly agree with FOX, just be yourself. Afterall, that is why we all love you so dearly. Cheering for you – Cathy
